MAYVILLE - Virginia M. "Geege" Bentley, 94, of 40 Evans St., Mayville, N.Y., died Saturday (Jan. 25, 2014) with her family at her side at Absolut Care of Westfield, following a short illness.
Geege was the widow of Norris M. Bentley, whom she married April 25, 1946, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville, and who died Aug. 1, 2009.
She was born July 31, 1919, in Mayville, the daughter of the late Harry and Gertrude LaKin Sylvester.

Together with her husband they owned and operated Bentley's Supermarket for many years prior to their retirement.
Geege was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Mayville.
She will be remembered as a very loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend to those that she knew. She loved to knit and crochet. She gave many of her lap robes to Absolut Care of Westfield and made many baby blankets for gifts. Along with her love of knitting, crocheting and her love of playing cards, bingo with her friends at Portage Hill Apartments and visits with her family, she had a very full life after the death of her husband.
She is survived by her three children: Joyce (Robert N.) Mathews of Mayville, John L. (Yvonne) Bentley of Dunkirk and Wayne M. Bentley of Jamestown; two grandchildren: Debra R. (Michael) Butler of Florence, S.C., and Robert E. (Cynthia) Mathews of Columbia, S.C.; four step-grandchildren: Lynne Schellinger, Lisa Lee, Julie Ruch and Kelly Shaw; two great-granddaughters: Kayla and Jessica Butler; and eight step- great-grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. Claudia Scheda, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.No calling hours will be observed.
