Darwin D. Durlin, 61, of Pittsfield, Pa., passed away on Jan. 20, 2014, as a result of injuries sustained in a house fire.
Darwin was born June 3, 1952, in Warren, Pa., to Carl Durlin of Pittsfield, Pa., Florence (Jerry) (Curry) Fosnight of Warren, Pa., and Jeannine Durlin of Pittsfield, Pa.
Darwin was a logger, worked at several sawmills, owned and operated Durlin Sawdust and worked with Sam Fischer for many years as a logger, skidding logs with their horses. He previously worked at Conrail for 20 years, the National Forge for 18 years and most recently worked for Western New York Pennsylvania Railroad, where he was a supervisor in the track department.

He enjoyed farming, horse and pony pulls, and farm shows and draft horses. He loved his children and grandchildren.
Darwin was a hero, he always put others before himself.
He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Cheryl (Kimmel) Durlin; a daughter, April (Charles) Banks of North Carolina, a son, Darrell Durlin and his companion, Tammy Ward, of Sheffield, a daughter, Amanda (Justin) Darr of Sugar Grove, a daughter, Melanie (Trekia) Swab of Spring Creek, and a son, Jaykup Durlin of Pittsfield, and his companion Nikki Eckman of Lander; a brother, Darcy (Cheryl) Durlin of Columbus, a sister, Darice (Dennis) Stroup of Spring Creek, a brother, Dexter (Mary) Durlin of North Carolina, and a sister, Danette (Jeff) Head of Warren; a half-brother, Damon Durlin of Pittsfield; a step-brother, Merle (Kim) Smith of Pittsfield; a step-sister, Marilyn (Darrin) Connelly of Port Allegheny, 12 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Dave Danielson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Samantha Lewis; a grandmother, Alice (Ma) Abraham; and Grandpa Joe Curry.
Friends will be received on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Garland Volunteer Fire Department from 1-3 p.m. at which time a celebration of life service will be held there. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
The family strongly suggests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family has also asked that anyone who may have pictures of the family and of Darwin, to please bring copies, as many were lost in the fire.
