James Hitchcock, 80, formerly of Ellington, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2014) in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
A lifelong area resident, he was born Aug. 27, 1933, in Jamestown, the son of the late Daniel and Florence Hitchcock Walker.
James attended Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Prior to retirement he was employed by Union National for 30 years, retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed listening to music and playing the guitar. He was a former member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his sister, Margery Doty of Falconer; 10 nieces and nephews: Di-ane Doty, Barbara Doty, Harold Doty Jr., Donna Eld-erkin, Harold Walker Jr., Wendy Walker, Lori Lauria, Rick Walker, Daniel Walker, Judy McGaughey and several great nieces and great nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Walker.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Don Reese of Ivory Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington.
Friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the funeral service Wednesday in the funeral home.
