The Jamestown Indoor Track & Field Teams travelled to SUNY Brockport to compete in the Trent Jackson, Cedric Walker Memorial Invitational on Saturday, while squaring off against come of the top talent in New York State.
Summer Haight and Mikayla Capestrani continued their excellence for the Lady Red Raiders. Capestrani took second place in the pole vault with her 10-foot leap, and Haight tied her personal best of 8.76 in the 55-meter hurdles to earn her silver medal. Add that to Sarah Garvin's personal best in the 300 meters, which was good for sixth place, and the team accounted well for itself.
The Jamestown boys also performed well. Steven Nowell took two eighth-place finishes with his 5-10 high jump and his 8.48 finish in the 55 hurdles. The boys 3,200 relay team of Austen Johnson, Patrick Walsh, Christian Edborg and Matthew Lombardo took fifth place with their 8:51.41, missing the school indoor record by 1.3 seconds. Jarell Greene and Deontae Martin carved out a spot in the triple jump, taking third and sixthth place. Greene's jump of 42-11 set a new school indoor record, beating Camryn Knight's 42-9 leap from the 2011 season.
The team will be back in action again on Monday at the Varsity Team Challenge at SUNY Fredonia.
