JCC Basketball Teams Begin 'Real Season' Today
By Jim Riggs
Both Jamestown Community College basketball teams return to action today as the ''real season'' gets underway with games against Erie CC.
At 5:30 p.m., the JCC women (12-3) take on the Lady Kats (5-7) and at 7:30 p.m. the JCC men (6-8) play Erie (7-5).
Both Jayhawk teams ended their first semester of action on Dec. 17 with home wins over Lakeland CC. The JCC women won, 76-52, for their sixth straight victory.
The men won, 74-73, in overtime on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by Tyreek Jewell. It was the Jayhawks' fourth straight win.
But the ''real season'' begins today as both JCC teams begin NJCAA Region 3 Division II action. So their most important records are 0-0 as they head into regional action.
For the JCC men, Ohndo Smith begins 2014 leading NJCAA Division II in rebounding with 13.8 per game and Jewell is 17th in scoring with 22.6 points per game.
It is the start of a busy week for both Jayhawk teams. On Thursday, they have Region 3 Division II games at Monroe CC and on Saturday they travel to Elyria, Ohio, to take on Lorain County CC in games that were postponed on Jan. 7.
Their next home games are on Jan. 28 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. against Niagara County CC.
