LAKEWOOD - The Lakewood YMCA will begin new session in several programs. They include:
The Lakewood YMCA has a complete gymnastic program from beginner to our Nationally Competitive Team. Classes are under the direction of Haley Bator.
Tots Classes: Preschooler ages 3 and 4 will have the opportunity work on bars, beam, and floor with classes starting at 9 a.m. Saturdays
Beginner Classes for children ages 5 and up. The beginner's class is designed for students with no experience to low intermediate gymnastics. Skills will be developed in all four of the gymnastic areas floor, beam, bars and vaults. The class is divided into three groups based on ability. Classes are held at 4 or 5 p.m. Monday or Wednesday, at 4 p.m. Tuesday and 9 or 10 a.m. Saturday.
Intermediate Classes are offered at 4 p.m. Monday and Wednesday and 4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. Team practices are held at 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The Gaffar Adams Academy will instruct karate from 4-5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. Students learn the movement, respect, history, purpose and finer aspects of karate through a colored belt system.
JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT TENNIS
The Lakewood Family YMCA offers a complete tennis program from tots to elites.
The tots program is for youth ages 4 to 6. Basic tennis skills will be taught but the emphasis will be on fun games to develop coordination and a love for the sport. Classes are offered at 3:45 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and at 10 a.m. Saturday.
The beginner program is for youth ages 7 and up. The basic fundamentals of tennis will be taught which include stroke production, footwork, rules, positioning, scoring and etiquette of the game. Classes are offered at 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday.
Intermediate/advanced classes are open to players who are capable of playing an unsupervised set. The curriculum includes shot placement, strategies, spins, specialty shots, drills, games and match play. Lessons are available at 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
The elite program is designed for the top players in the area. Lessons are available from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and 1-3 p.m. Saturday.
Adult clinics and private lessons are also available.
The Lakewood YMCA offers a variety of classes that foster independence, exploration and learning.
Stay and Play is held from 9:30-10 a.m. Mondays and is for mothers, fathers and their children between the ages of 1 and 2. Caregivers are welcome. Parachutes, beams, a trampoline and more will be used to foster socialization and confidence, as well as improving balance, strength, and coordination.
Tiny Tumblers meets from 10:30-11 a.m. Mondays for children between the ages of 3 and 5. Preschoolers will increase the development of gross motor skills, strength, balance, and coordination using a variety of tumbling equipment.
Mom's Morning Out is a drop-off play group from 9:30 a.m. to noon Fridays. The group is an opportunity for mothers to shop, run errands, or take a break.
