MAYVILLE - Family and friends will hold a benefit for Don Briggs Jr. from 1-5 p.m. Saturday at the Mayville American Legion, South Erie Street, Mayville.
In September, Briggs was diagnosed with uveal malignant melanoma of the right eye. His eye was removed and he has since been fitted with a prosthetic eye. He had additional testing that found the melanoma had spread to his liver. He has finished the radiation treatments for now and has started the chemo treatments. These involve frequent trips to Cleveland Clinic.
Briggs is employed by Industrial Welding & Fabricating. Although they have worked with him through this, Briggs has used up all of his sick and vacation day. He now has to take unpaid days off work. The benefit will help cover the medical bills, transportation to Cleveland Clinic and day-to-day living expenses.
A benefit Don Briggs, pictured above, will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mayville American Legion post.
The benefit will consist of a spaghetti dinner, Chinese auction, 50/50 giveaway and door prizes. A tool box donated by Randolph Auto Supply will be auctioned separately.
Tickets are $6 for children ages 12 and under and $10 for adults.
