SOUTH DAYTON - Stanley Tyma Jr., 76, a therapy aide for Gowanda State Hospital, where he worked for more than 30 years, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.
He was born Dec. 2, 1937, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Stanley and Hattie (Dusszynska) Tyma, Sr.
Stan also worked at the South Dayton Meat Market for a number of years as a butcher. He was a member of the South Dayton American Legion Post 1593.
Stan was raised Catholic and attended the St. John Fisher's Roman Catholic Church for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He also enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict, having attained the rank of SP4 E4 (T). Enlisted on Nov. 16, 1960, at Salamanca, N.Y., and discharged on Nov. 15, 1962, at Walter Reed Army Medical.
He is survived by his wife Shirley A. (Killock) Tyma of South Dayton, N.Y., whom he married Sept. 28, 1963, in the St. John Fisher's Roman Catholic Church; one son; Stanley A. (Diane) Tyma III of Fredonia, N.Y.; a daughter, Christina M. Tyma of South Dayton, N.Y.; two grandsons: Joshua A. Tyma of Gowanda, N.Y., and Douglas C. Tyma of Buffalo, N.Y.; two granddaughters: Richelle L. Tyma of Fredonia, N.Y., and Jocelyn M. Tyma of South Dayton, N.Y.; and a brother, Richard Tyma of South Dayton, N.Y.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Catherine Lynn Tyma; four sisters: Dorothy Jarvis, Irene Milligan, Lucy Grover and Nancy Fairbanks.
Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 25 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Hills Funeral Chapel, 478 Balcom Corners, South Dayton, N.Y. The Rev. Matt Wittenbrook of South Dayton Free Methodist Church will be officiating. Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery in Forestville.
