SYRACUSE - Hope Pietrocarlo will end the calendar year just the way she finished her cross country season - as one of the best.
Hope Pietrocarlo, seen winning the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association cross country championships in October at Long Point State Park, earned first-team all-state recognition by the New York State Sportswriters Association for the fourth straight year.

The Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School sophomore has been selected to the New York State Sportswriters Association Class D cross country first team for the fourth straight year. The all-state teams in four classifications were announced on Friday.
Pietrocarlo's 2013 resume certainly qualifies her for that honor.
Chief among her accomplishments in the fall was winning the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class D championship in Queensbury, leading the Lady Red Dragons to a second-place team finish.
But there was more.
In addition to going undefeated in individual and team dual meets, she also claimed the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association and Section 6 Class D championships. For her efforts, she qualified for the Federation meet - only three runners from each section are selected - and she also participated in the Foot Locker race in New York City last month where runners from 10 northeastern states were invited.
"She's a racer,'' Maple Grove coach Doc Rappole said earlier this year. "There are kids who are trainers and there are kids who are racers, and she's a racer."
Pietrocarlo wasn't the only Maple Grover runner to make an all-state team. Senior Caroline Benson was selected to the third team, and eighth-grader Grace Auer and senior Taylor Norris were honorable-mention choices.
Also earning honorable mention were senior Holly Eliason of Clymer/Sherman/Panama and freshman Emma Seiders of Silver Creek.
