SALAMANCA, N.Y. - Jerome W. Block, 85, formerly of Lincoln Avenue, Salamanca, and the Frewsburg Rest Home, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 25, 2013), in Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
Mr. Block graduated from Brooklyn High School in New York City, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War from Jan. 31, 1951, to April 19, 1953.
He was self-employed and owned a public relations company. Following retirement, he worked for his son Steve at the Turtle Pit Smoke Shop and Gas Station in the town of Coldspring.
He enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, ballet and going to the theatre in New York City. Mr. Block belonged to the Masonic Temple in Tallman, N.Y.
He is survived by a son, Steven M. Block and wife, Mary Jane of Steamburg, N.Y.; a daughter, Diane Block-Gamble and husband, Bradley of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Richard Block and wife, Beatrice of Florida; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his wife, Joan Rosen on Feb. 28, 1992.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday (Dec. 30, 2013), in the Mt. View Cemetery in Olean, N.Y. Rabbi Alex Klein of Buffalo will conduct the service.
Arrangements are entrusted to the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.
