Romaine E. Sparling, 91, formerly of Lakewood, died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 25, 2013) in the Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing facility.
She was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Jamestown, the daughter of Gustav and Olivia Olson Wickstrom, and was a 1940 graduate of the former Celoron High School.
For many years she worked with her parents at the Wickstrom Florist on Charles Street. She had also been employed by Lawson Furniture Co., the Big N, Jamesway and Sears.
A confirmed member of Zion Covenant Church, she had formerly been a member of the Celoron-West Ellicott Senior Citizens, the Diana Lodge, and the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion Auxiliary. She en-joyed oil painting, working with pastels and flower gardening.
Surviving are a son, Gary E. (Kathy) Chase of Irvine, Calif.; a daughter, Bonnie G. (late Harry) Campbell of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada; three stepchildren: Rodney (Elaine) Sparling of Cape Coral, Fla., Donald (Geri) Sparling of Frewsburg, and Ruth (Sam) Boscia of Jamestown; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard E. Chase, whom she married Sept. 25, 1941, and who died June 15, 1989; her second husband, Ralph A. Sparling, whom she married June 1, 1991, in Hawaii, and who died Jan. 6, 1999; triplet sons who died shortly after birth; and by an infant brother.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
