BUSTI - Busti has approved its comprehensive plan.
The plan, which can be found on the town's website, is a process which allows the community to look at itself and collectively assess where it currently is, where they want to go in the future and how to get there. The last time Busti examined trends affecting the town and set goals for the future was in 1972.
"I want to encourage you to actually implement it," said Don McCord, the planner-author of the Busti Comprehensive Plan. " ... As the leadership of the town, really, once we are through the planning phase whether its the citizens or yourself, this is where it starts."

Trustee Todd Hanson thanked the community for its hard work at Monday's meeting. Busti plans to implement the goals and strategies outlined in the comprehensive plan right away, taking one step at a time. The first part of the plan Busti proposes to undertake is the review and update of the zoning laws as well as plans to attract new businesses and residents to the town. The board will be looking for community members after the New Year to help implement parts of the comprehensive plan.
Busti also said good-bye to its town clerk of 22 years, Diane VanDewark. VanDewark was originally hired by the town on May 1, 1974, as bookkeeper.
"Diane's knowledge of the town of Busti, its history, her accuracy of balancing a town budget or tax roll effortlessly will forever be unmatched," said town Supervisor Jesse Robbins in a speech read on her behalf. "Diane's dedication to those she has worked with over the years and the people of the town of Busti is incredible."
Darlene Nygren will be taking over as town clerk on Jan. 2 with Susan Hoffman hired as deputy clerk.
In other news the board approved the purchase of a new plow and pickup truck and to send a letter to the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency about a bike trail.
