The Southwestern Central School Board of Education approved several financial and personnel items during its regular meeting last week.
Two donation items were approved on the financial front, including the board's acceptance of $200 from the Southwestern Soccer Club and iPad cases from Mark Lindstrom.
Also, the board approved and accepted the tax collector's report and affidavit of unpaid school taxes. The transmission of the report and affidavit were approved in the following amounts: $483,523.44 for the town of Busti, $158,291.17 for the town of Ellicott and $7,833.66 for the town of Harmony - making for a grand total of $649,651.27 in taxes due.
Personnel appointments included: Jeffrey Loomis and Jessice Turzillo to serve in the capacity of bus driver II, Michael Conti to serve as mechanic II, Darin Beckerink to serve as middle school bus loading supervisor for the 2013-14 school year and Joseph Caprino to serve as a certified instructional substitute teacher for the 2013-14 school year. Also appointed were Sammy Lou Green, Curtis Olson and Cynthia Vullo as non-instructional 2013-14 substitutes, and Katie Cavness, Dakota Fluent, Jared Lindell and Maria Olson as 2013-14 volunteers and interns.
The lone resignation to be approved was that of Craig Underwood as middle school softball coach, effective as of Wednesday. The board agreed to abolish a full-time equivalent, non-instructional teacher aide position due to retirement - a position which Maureen Donahue, superintendent, said the district would not seek to refill.
Also approved were trip requests for the middle school ski club and the high school bowl, a shared boys' swimming agreement with Frewsburg Central School and a disaster-preparedness plan for 2014.
The district's 2014-15 budget development calendar was also submitted for approval.
