The 89th Jamestown High School A Cappella Vespers, directed by Norman Lydell, will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church. Doors will open at 3 p.m. Organist Brian A. Bogey will accompany the choir. The A Cappella Vespers will feature sacred repertoire and holiday favorites.
During the holiday season, the 75-member A Cappella Choir and the smaller, select group of Madrigal Singers, perform throughout the local community. With more than 20 performances, the students sing for area civic organizations including the Rotary Club, the A.A.U.W., A.A.R.P., Retired Teachers Assoc., Kiwanis Club, Allen Park Community Sing, and others. In addition, the groups perform for JPS middle schools and participate in JHS' traditional assembly program and caroling in the halls.
"It is really important to continue the tradition of singing sacred songs both for the community and the A Cappella choir. As students, it shows that we respect the past and want to continue to honor it," said JHS senior and A Cappella President Kirstie Hanson. "It is also so neat to go out in the community and hear people say that they were a part of A Cappella when they were in school. By singing our songs and spreading holiday cheer in the community, we put a smile on someone's face."
The JHS A Cappella Choir recently sang to the Jamestown Kiwanis during their holiday luncheon.
The A Cappella Vespers is free with an offering. The public is encouraged and welcome to attend.
