Josephine (Johann) BonfiglioNocero, 95, of 611 Fairmount Ave., WE, died at 10:38 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 8, 2013), at the home of her daughter, Rosemary Stage, in Maple Springs, after a sixyear battle with dementia.
She was born in Jamestown on May 1, 1918, the daughter of the late Sebastian and Rosa Caccamise Bonfiglio.
Johann was the owner and operator with her husband of Nocero Food Market and Mr. Big Stuff Sub Shop at the corner of Foote and Allen streets for 25 years. She was a Shaklee distributor and a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church. Johann enjoyed Sunday spaghetti dinners with her family, and working outside in her yard. She loved her grandchildren and helped in raising all of them.
She is survived by a daughter, Rosemary (Paul) Stage, Maple Springs, N.Y.; two sons: Russell J. Nocero Jr. of Denver, Colo., and John M. (Nancy Henderson) Nocero, Cedar Falls, Iowa; a soninlaw, Gary O. Lawson, Lakewood, N.Y.; five grandchildren: Paul O. Stage II (fiance, Jordan Pierce) Chapel Hill, N.C., Mathew Stage, Bemus Point and student at SUNY Maritime College, New York City, Kristen E. Stage (Nader S. Geleil), Jamestown, N.Y., Emily N. Lawson, Lakewood, N.Y., and Kyle (Amanda) Nocero, Cleburne, Texas; a greatgrandson, Tucker Nocero, Cleburne, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell J. Nocero Sr., whom she married on June 25, 1947, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Niagara Falls, and who died on June 23, 1997; a daughter, Joelle J. Lawson who died on Feb. 17, 1996; and by a sister, Carol D. Vickers, Niagara Falls, N.Y., who died on March 28, 2012.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. James Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Holy SepulchreCemetery.
Friends will be received on Friday from 68 p.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 6 p.m..
