The wrestling depth of Pine Valley/Cattaraugus-Little Valley proved to be the difference in winning the annual Maple Grove Tournament on Saturday.
Alex Kelly was the lone champion for the winners as he won the 170-pound title over Nick Peterson of Cassadaga Valley, 6-4, but the winners captured the crown with 175 points with host Maple Grove second with 172 points and Cassadaga Valley third with 165 points.
Pine Valley/Cattaraugus-Little Valley had two second-place finishes in Sam Grey at 99 pounds and Gabe Grey at 138 pounds. The Timberwolves placed third three times, fourth twice and fifth four times en route to the title.

Chase Stevenson won for Southwestern at 99 pounds, Scott Green of Falconer at 132 pounds, and T.J. Bihler at 152, Brian Westerlund at 145 and Howie Nolan at 160 all of Maple Grove.
Also, Eben Torres of Cassadaga Valley won at 182 pounds and teammate Tyson Gugino at 285 while Trevor Spicer of Frewsburg was victorious at 195.

LANDER, Pa. - Sparked by senior Kyle Ross, selected as Most Outstanding Wrestler, Falconer made it three straight wrestling championships at the Eisenhower Kickoff Classic on Saturday.
Ross was one of six champions from Falconer as the Golden Falcons dominated the eight-team field with 249 points. Erie Strong Vincent was next with 157 points followed by host Eisenhower with 142 points.
Ross claimed the 160-pound crown by taking care of highly regarded Jarod Carlson of Strong Vincent, 4-0. Carlson reached the regional finals last year. Overall, Ross had five pins.
The other Falconer wins were 106-pound Dexter Ormond over Joe Renke of Eisenhower in 1:12; 132-pound Jake Peru over Robert Harris of Erie Central, 10-8; 170-pound Jim Schwab over Cade Hetterman of Eisenhower, 7-3; 195-pound Jake Penhollow over Sampson Cofanoo of Central, 8-3; and 285-pound Justin Spencer over Wil Pelliso of Johnsonburg in 3:07.
Taking second-place finishes for Falconer were Cameron Paige (131), who lost to Carmen Ciotti in 2:47, and Ricky Griffith (120), who was beaten by Josh Cobain of Erie Strong Vincent.
Falconer received third-place finishes from Austin Ormond (126), Mike Raynor (138), Zak Mata (145) and L.J. Spangenburg (220).
BERGEN - Nick Hudson and Tyler Furlow earned wrestling titles as Ripley won the 2013 Byron-Bergen/Elba Tournament.
Hudson recorded his fourth pin at 126 pounds by beating Matt Geiser of Alexander in 3:22 and Furlow had his third pin at 175 pounds in topping Skyler Tuper of North Rose-Wolcott in 3:45 as Ripley had 170 pins to win the 18-team field.
North Rose-Wolcott was second with 159 points and host Byron-Bergen/Elba third with 129 points.
The Eagles had second-place finishes turned in by Brad Rowe (106), Kale Gilbert (138) and D.J. Hamrick (285). Rowe absorbed a 15-0 loss to Conner Wilkins of Livonia and Gilbert was dealt a 6-1 decision by Hunter Taylor of the hosts.
Matt Ecklund (132), Roger Williams (138) and Zac Reyes (160) wound up third for Ripley.
Dominick Rammelt (170) picked up three wins, and Justin Gross (220) and Trent Howard aided the Ripley cause with two wins.
Wilkens was the outstanding middleweight wrestler for Livonia at 106 pounds while Dakota Warren of North Rose-Wolcott was the top middleweight wrestler at 170 pounds.
