Ann Marlene (Brooks) West, 58, responded to God's call to enter eternity Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, six days prior to her 59th birthday.
Ann was born in Jamestown. She was the loving wife of David J. West. Their 25th anniversary took place on the day of Ann's passing. Ann was the devoted mother of David J. (Jordan) West II and Brandon M. West, both at home.
Ann was well-known for her graciousness. She was a friend to many through both casual contacts and the several organizations in which she participated. She loved Women of Faith and the Red Hat Society. Close to her heart was Christ Community Church as well as her past membership in The Beacon Church of Fredonia. It was not uncommon for her holiday tables to be full with relatives and even new found friends.

She never wanted to leave anyone out. She could often be found dining with friends at Bob Evans or having lunch at The Upper Crust with her beloved mother-in-law, Sue West.
Ann was a graduate of Jamestown High School and St. Bonaventure University, where she concentrated on early education. She began her career teaching second grade in the Cattaraugus Central School System. Later, she transitioned into criminal justice by accepting a position for the village of Cattaraugus. She later graduated from the Sheriff's Police Academy and accepted a position as the first female police officer in the village of Fredonia in 1983. In June 1996, she became the first woman in the Cattaraugus-Chautauqua County region to be elevat-ed to the rank of sergeant.
Her specialization was family and children's issues, which continued until her retirement in February 2003. Recently, Ann enjoyed substitute teaching at Fredonia BOCES where she was praised for her ability to connect with students and her friendly, kind demeanor.
Numerous friends and acquaintances have commented on Ann's loving personality saying that when Ann became your friend, you had a friend for life. She was objective and fair about her interpretations of people, never angry, a unique and special lady. In her quiet way, she was always there for others.
In addition to her husband and sons, she is survived by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Susan and Harlan West; brothers-in-law: Charles (Lois) and Harlan (Sheila) and their families; and her brothers and sisters: Herbert R.
