SYRACUSE - Unbeaten and state champion Randolph (13-0) finished first in the final New York State Sportswriters Association Class D football poll.
The Cardinals, owners of a 23-game winning streak, were one place ahead of the Maple Grove/Chautauqua Lake Thunder Dragons (7-2), whose only two losses this season were to Randolph. Tioga of Section 4 (11-1) was third and Chester of Section 9 (10-2) was fourth.
Honorable mention in Class D went to Cattaraugus-Little Valley (7-3), Frewsburg (6-3), Sherman (6-2) and Panama (5-3).
Jamestown (10-1) finished fourth in the Class AA, three spots in back of No. 1 Aquinas of Section 5 (13-0). Abraham Lincoln of New York City (12-0) and St. Anthony's of Melville (11-1) were second and third.
Fredonia (9-1) wound up 10th in Class C. Babylon of Section 11 (12-0) and Chenango Forks of Section 9 (12-1) were the co-champs. Salamanca (6-2) was honorable mention.
Maine-Endwell of Section 4 scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion with just four seconds left to gain its 13th straight win and 38 in a row over a three-year span by defeating No. 2 Schalmont of Section 2 (12-1) in Class B.
Class A had another tie for the top-ranking between Queensbury of Section 2 (13-0) and Carey of Section 8 (12-0).
