Joyce L. Francis, 81, of 8 Alvin James Dr., Ashville, died at 2 p.m. Monday (Dec. 2, 2013), in the Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born April 4, 1932, in Jamestown, the daughter of Phillip and Betty Trippi Walz.
A 1950 graduate of Jamestown High School, she had been employed in the office of Blackstone Corp. (which later became Valeo), retiring in 1994. In earlier years, she had worked at the Steel Partition Co.

She was a communicant of Holy Apostles Parish, Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and was a member of the Lakewood American Legion Auxiliary.
She loved to travel and enjoyed spending time at their home in Florida, and at their camp at Blue Water Beach on Lake Erie, where she liked to cook and entertain. She also enjoyed bowling.
Surviving are her husband, James W. Francis, whom she married June 13, 1953, in the rectory of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; two sons: Bradley C. Francis of Indialantic, Fla., and Patrick J. Francis of Bemus Point; a daughter, Sue Ann Van Marter of Ashville; five grandchildren: Michael and Michelle Francis, both of Lakewood, Grandin Van Marter of Roanoke, Va., Korrie Francis of Indialantic, Fla., and Jennifer O'Shea of Philadelphia, Pa; a great-grandchild, McKenna Grace Van Marter of Roanoke, Va.; three brothers: Robert and Joseph Walz of Jamestown, and Phillip Walz of Buffalo; and a sister, Vonda Walz of Jamestown.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10 in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. Deacon Sam Pellerito of Holy Apostles Parish will officiate.
