SHERMAN - The Erie Bayhawks of the NBA Development League will hit the road at 7 tonight for their first-ever ''traveling practice'' at the Sherman Central School gymnasium.
Featuring players who played at some of the country's top collegiate programs, the Bayhawks will share their talents during a 90-minute practice that will also include on-court contests with fans and an appearance by the club's mascot, Clutch.
The Bayhawks, an affiliate of the New York Knicks, are one of 17 teams in the league, which is also referred to as the NBA D-League. Among the players on the roster are guard Chris Smith, who played at the University of Louisville and was assigned to the Bayhawks by the Knicks; forward CJ Leslie, who played collegiately at North Carolina State; and guard Mustafa Shakur, who played collegiately at Arizona.
Tickets, priced at $10 and available at in the school's main office, at the door or from members of the Sherman boys and girls basketball teams, are also good for the Bayhawks' game on Saturday, Jan. 25, at Erie Insurance Arena.
As an added bonus, the Sherman boys and girls teams will square off with their counterparts from Panama Central School in games at Erie Insurance Arena. The varsity girls game is set for 3 p.m., the varsity boys game at 5 p.m., followed by Bayhawks/Iowa Energy contest at 7 p.m.
