FREWSBURG - Daryl L. Dutchess, 63, of 11 Center St., Frewsburg, died Sunday (Dec. 1, 2013), at his home, following a brief illness with cancer.
He was born July 6, 1950, in Henryetta, Okla., the son of James and Florence Wagner Dutchess.
Daryl had been the chief of police for 33 years for the town of Carroll before retiring in July of 2012. Most recently he was a Jamestown court security officer and had served as zoning officer for the towns of Carroll and Randolph.
He was a member of the Fentonville United Methodist Church, Carroll Rod and Gun, Carroll Historical Society and Samuel Derby Post 556 American Legion Frewsburg, where he was recently awarded membership of The Past Commanders Club for his involvement with the Sons of The Legion.
He loved the outdoors, was an avid sportsman and enjoyed time at his newly purchased farmland.
Daryl is survived by three children: Timothy Dutchess of San Diego, Calif., Andy Dutchess of Fluvanna, and a daughter, Leslie Ryder; a brother, Eddy Dutchess of Stonewood W.Va.; his companion, Cassie Antill; step daughter, Jody Suber; ; four stepgrandchildren; and his relatives in the Clarksburg area.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the Samuel Derby Post 556 American Legion Frewsburg. The Rev. Christopher Rhodes, pastor of the Fentonville United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Frewsburg.
No visitation will be observed.
