The Lucille Ball Little Theater recently announced auditions for the two Neil Simon comedies that the theater will produce in early 2014.
The theater is currently a busy place with preparations underway for "Shrek The Musical." The Junior Guilders have just concluded their Christmas show for the community's enjoyment and Shrek preparations fill the stage, basement workshops and lobby of the theater. Shrek opens on Saturday, Dec. 7.
"The Odd Couple" and "Plaza Suite" are the two Neil Simon comedies to be presented. Auditions will be held at the Infinity Visual and Performing Arts Center which is on Third Street directly across the street from the Reg Lenna Civic Center. Auditionees can attend two audition sessions: Saturday from noon-2 p.m. or Saturday from 6-7:30 p.m. "The Odd Couple" has a cast of six men (ages 30-40) and two women (ages 25-30). "Plaza Suite" has a cast of three men and three women (ages 30-50). Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script and need not have a prepared reading.
Directors Adam Owens and Anne Eklund are pleased to have a crack at these Neil Simon comedies. Simon is a highly prolific and highly recognized playwright of the American theater. Over the theater's 76 seasons, 16 Simon plays have been presented. In fact, the theater first presented a Simon play in 1967 and that play was "The Odd Couple." "Plaza Suite" was first presented at the theater in 1971.
Owens and Eklund hope to share the fun of a Neil Simon script and to share auditions, sets, crew members, actors and public relations efforts. Actors and backstage workers are invited to the auditions. Information regarding the production specifics will be available from the directors at the auditions or by calling the theater at 483-1095 or by contacting Owens at 679-8763.
