SINCLAIRVILLE - After extended negotiations, the Cassadaga Valley Central School District and its teachers' union, the Cassadaga Valley Faculty Association, have a new contract.
A special meeting was held in the administrative offices of the high school at 7 a.m. on Friday to discuss the negotiated settlement agreement, a six-year contract expiring June 30, 2017. The last contract expired June 30, 2011.
Both the union and the district ratified a tentative agreement with their respective negotiating committees late last week after meeting with a New York State Public Employment Relations Board mediator.
"I'm very pleased we were able to get this done. The faculty association worked very hard with us to make sure we had a fair settlement for the district and the teachers," interim Superintendent Thomas Schmidt said.
The details of the new contract include increased employee contributions toward health insurance premiums and longevity payments to employees when they reach particular steps on the salary schedule.
Also, it was determined that all teachers will have 30 minutes of preparation time each day, and all paychecks for union members will now be direct deposited.
At the meeting, two transfers were made in the school's general fund in order for a security update at Sinclairville Elementary School.
The first transfer was $5,000 for the purchase of cores and keys, and the second transfer amounted to $35,000 for lock sets, doors and miscellaneous hardware.
