Jack Gregory, 80, of 234 Gregory Lane, Sugar Grove, Pa., died peacefully Nov. 10, 2013, at Warren General Hospital.
He was born Feb. 20, 1933, in Sugar Grove, to the late Henry and Emma Kinglsey Gregory. Jack attended Chandlers Valley Grade School and the Sugar Grove High School. After high school, he joined the National Guard, and received an honorable discharge after serving in the Korean War. He drove cross country in his 1951 Pontiac to Portland, Ore., and worked in a sawmill there. Returning to Pennsylvania, he worked for Erickson's Sawmill of Blockville, N.Y., and Asplund Tree Cutting Service. In 1958, he started work at Jamestown Metal Products, retiring from there in 1995.
Jack enjoyed cooking pork and sauerkraut for the clubs on New Year's Eve and for the former Sugar Grove Hotel. After his retirement, he enjoyed running his sawmill, named "American #1" and spending time outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, brush hogging, his John Deere tractor and sitting around campfires with his friends. His pride and joy though was his 1948 Indian Motorcycle that he restored. Jack was a founding member of the Sugar Grove American Legion Post No. 758, of which he helped to build, a lifetime member of the Sugar Grove AmVets and a bartender for the former Sugar Grove Rod and Gun Club. He was loved by his family and many friends.
