PITTSBURGH - Jamestown Community College women's basketball moved to 4-0 on the year with a 71-56 victory over Community College of Allegheny College on Saturday.
Freshman Elle Reed of Sherman added to her already impressive season, scoring 23 points, including seven buckets from 3-point range, as well as recording four steals.
The Lady Jayhawks were playing without head coach George Sisson, who missed the game due to the recent passing of his father.
With assistant coach Travis Wells leading the way, JCC rallied after a close first half and lit up the Lady Cougars in the final minutes of the game.
Four of Reed's baskets from beyond the arc came in the second half, while Akiah Luceus added 10 points from inside the paint for JCC.
The game shifted momentum when the Lady Jayhawks were able to shut down Taylor Smith, who made eight of her nine total baskets in the first half. After her stellar opening, Smith saw significantly more defensive pressure in the second and only made one field goal in the final 20 minutes.
With their star player heavily covered, CCAC was unable to find scoring from other areas on the court. Ebony Brown and Arabia Brooks-Porter were able to add 12 points in the second half, but that was not enough to keep up with the Jayhawks.
The first half was competetively played by the Cougers, and ended in a 29-29 tie.
Reed put in three shots from long range and Sydney Milliman added one.
The Lady Jayhawks got 12 points a piece from both Luceus and Shawana Miller, while Storer had an impressive outing at point guard, shooting fifty percent from the field with five assists and three steals.
Smith led CCAC with 26 points and CCAC also outrebounded JCC, 61-37, but had a tough time turning their possessions into points.
The Lady Jayhawks will be in action on Wednesday at home against Butler County CC. The game begins at 5 p.m.
