Carolyn A. Lewis, 70, of Akeley, Pa., died Sunday morning, Nov. 3, 2013, at WCA Hospital, Jamestown, N.Y., after a brief illness. She was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Jamestown, N.Y.
Daughter of the late Willard and Mariam Stebbins Bailey. She has resided in Akeley, Pa., since 1965, and was a 1961 graduate of Jamestown High School.
Carolyn was employed with Blair Corporation and Stricklands Heritage House as a hostess and waitress. She was a member of Akeley United Methodist Church, where she was an active member, especially with the Operations Christmas Child, served as superintendent and teacher of the church Sunday school class and Bible study group.
She enjoyed knitting and was a member of the Adult Girl Scouts, Strong WomanStrong Bones Program, Hill & Dale Garden Club.
Her family and her church was the center of her life.
Carolyn is survived by three sons: Master Sgt. Ret. Jon Lewis and wife, Liz of Akeley, Pa., Marc Lewis and wife, Amy of Warren, Pa., and Jeffrey Lewis and wife, Shelley of Akeley, Pa.; stepmother, Betty Bailey of Union City, Pa.; stepsister, Bonnie Higley; brothers: Jerry, Daniel and James Bailey; stepbrother, David Beardsley; 10 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary V. Lewis, whom she married April 20, 1963, in Akeley, Pa., who died April 12, 2007; a son, Robert V. Lewis, who died Dec. 31, 2006; two brothers: Willard Bailey Jr. and Ronald Bailey; and a sister, Marlene Bailey.
Friends may call at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home Inc., 304 East St., Warren, Pa., on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, from 24 p.m. and 68 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Akeley United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Heckman, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell, Pa.
