OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Howard Duane Swanson passed away Oct. 31, 2013. He was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Jamestown, N.Y., to Harold T. and Jean Smith Swanson.
He was a 1952 graduate of Panama Central School.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged May 21, 1957. Following his time in the service, he received a degree from Alfred Technical School, in electronics.
Howard is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, of the home; his beloved children: Mark Swanson of Phoenix, Ariz., Mike and Bernadette Swanson of Albuquerque, N.M., Kim and Adam Frederick of Yukon, and their mother, Evelyn Swanson. His surviving grandchildren are: Denara ManningWofford, Ian and Joshua Swanson and Taylor, Jessika and Kole Frederick. He is also survived by his sister, Janice Present of Rolling Hills, Calif.; niece, Cindy Dilts; nephew, Chris Olsen; stepsister, Barbara McAtee of Vienna, W.Va.; Vicky and William Langford of Oklahoma City and Lisa Rowlette, of Bedford, Texas, as well as their children: Katie Butler, Erin Langford, Nicole Rowlette and Corwin Rowlette; and two special greatgrandchildren: Hunter and Juli Butler.
Howard retired from the FAA having been an instructor and electronics technician. He also was selfemployed as owner of Northwest Residential Properties. As a faithful member of Church of the Savior, Howard served two terms as elder and one term as president of the congregation. Howard had many interests and loved to go RVing, play bridge and other card games, and always maintained an interest in sports. In their later years, he and Margaret lived at Concordia and made many friendships there. He will be greatly missed.
Interment will be at Bethany Cemetery on Tuesday, Nov. 5, followed by a memorial service at Church of the Savior, 5600 N.W. 63rd, Oklahoma City, OK 73132
