BLOCKVILLE - Empire State Development announced today Empire Specialty Cheese Co. LLC will invest $6.37 million to expand its business in Chautauqua County. The company will purchase and upgrade the former AFA meat processing plant at 277 Fairbank Road in Blockville in the town of Harmony to expand operations in Southwestern New York.
"I am pleased today to announce we do have a deal that is going to turn this facility into a significant employer for the region, for the county and enable us to have a rock-solid business here continuing its many generations of use as a food-processing facility," said Greg Edwards, Chautauqua County executive.
Currently the company retains 46 full-time, permanent employees, and the new plant will result in the creation of 204 new jobs over the next five years, officials said.
