LAKEWOOD - Penalties for traffic violations committed in Lakewood will now be consistent with New York state law.
During a public hearing last week, the Lakewood Board of Trustees approved an amendment to the village's vehicle and traffic code, ensuring that any traffic infractions in the village should be commensurate with the penalties imposed by New York state.
According to village attorney, Edward P. Wright, current fines incurred within the village are not matching fines outside the village.
"We don't want to be drawing a distinction between the different streets because it gets cumbersome for the courts," Wright said.
The amendment was approved without dissent, and will be effective upon filing of the Secretary of State in Albany.
