Stefany Sue Nalepa, 36, of Pecor Street, Portland, N.Y., passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, after fighting a courageous battle with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
Stefany was born March 24, 1977, in Cheyenne, Wyo., and was the daughter of the late Steven Mapes and Candis Barr Mapes.
She has lived in the Portland, N.Y., area for the past 14 years. Stefany graduated from DMACC University of Des Moines, Iowa, where she majored in culinary arts. She also was in the U.S. Army, and served her country from 1996-98.

Besides loving and enjoying her family, she loved cooking, gardening and all her pets.
She is survived by her husband, Edward Nalepa Jr., whom she married Feb. 11, 1998; one son, Ethan Nalepa of Portland, N.Y.; her mother, Candis Mapes of Des Moines, Iowa; and one sister, Casey Mapes of Des Moines, Iowa.
Besides her father, she was predeceased by one brother, Ryder Mapes. .
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, N.Y. The Rev. Sandy Ball of the Fellowship Church of Brocton, N.Y., will officiate. At the conclusion of the service, full military honors will be conducted by The American Legion John W. Dill Post 434 of Brocton, N.Y.
There will be no visitation.
