Edward F. Sampson went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013.
He was born Oct. 28, 1931, at Summit Station near Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 60 years, Rita Marie (Arnold) Sampson; his children, whom he adored: Ronni (Mark) Hollingshead of Columbus, Ohio, Scott (Brenda) Sampson of Mayville, N.Y., and Robin (Kevin) Kelly of New Concord. Ohio; his cherished grandchildren: Kyle Hollingshead and Megan (Ben) Ranke of Columbus, Ohio, Christopher, Heather and Eliot Sampson of Mayville, N.Y., and Kayla , Cody and Christina Kelly of New Concord, Ohio. He is also survived by his sisters: Martha Shoemaker of Columbus, Ohio and Adorna Adams of Puget Sound, Wash.; and his numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Earl G. and Sarah E. (Winters) Sampson; and a brother, Harold "Jack" Sampson.
Ed worked for nearly 20 years as a product design engineer and supervisor in research and development for NCR, Cambridge division. He was formerly employed by the Columbus Dispatch, RCA, Martin Marietta, and NASA in Cocoa Beach and Orlando, Fla. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Zanesville Ohio, where he served as deacon, trustee and elder, and was a life member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lithopolis Lodge 169, Cambridge, Ohio. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy and the Ohio Air National Guard. He served as a Westland township trustee for more than 16 years.
He was also a member of the Guernesy County Republican Club and the NRA. He served as past president of National Trail Ruritan Club of New Concord, and past member of Postmasters International, Ohio Industrial Safety Council, Ohio Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts of America. He also served on the board of directors of the GMN TriCounty CAC Agency and supervisor for the Guernsey County Soil and Water Conservation district board.
The family wishes to extend special thanks for all the loving care of the Genesis Hospice staff in Zanesville, especially to Eddi's RN Shelly and CPA Julie, to Dr. Doug Rush of Medical Associates Cambridge for his constant attention to Eddi's care, and a special thank you for the continued prayers of our family and friends of Trinity Lutheran Church, Zanesville.
A memorial service will be held today, Oct. 22, 2013, beginning at noon at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at 128 South Seventh St., Zanesville Ohio, with a memorial luncheon to follow the service.
