TROY - The season ended on a disappointing note, but the future is bright for coach Dana Shelters and the 14 freshman returning to the Jamestown Community College women's soccer program next year.
Jamestown CC lost a heart-breaking 2-1 decision to Hudson Valley CC in the first round of the NJCAA Region 3 Division III playoffs.
Despite the loss, the Jayhawks wound up with a winning season at 8-6 while Hudson Valley is 6-5.
The first goal came at 17 minutes when Alex Vanauken scored unassisted to put the hosts ahead, 1-0.
At 27 minutes, a Hudson Valley player hit the crossbar and the shot hit the back of Caroline Gibbons and went into the net for a 2-0 lead.
''We came out strong in the second half,'' said Shelters.
At seven minutes. Kirsten Green scored her third goal of the season to slice the deficit to 2-1.
That was the last goal that JCC would make as Kylie Wilson and Bree Swanson had good shots, but just failed to convert.
JCC had Haley Sigular with six saves in goal while Emily Taplin of HVCC accounted for eight saves.
