Westfield Talks Underwater Preservation Project; Cleanup Today

October 12, 2013

WESTFIELD - Two shipwrecks sunk off Barcelona, including one in the harbor itself and the other just outside, are slated to become part of the Underwater Preserve project, sponsored by the Lake Champlain Underwater Historic Preserve. This project, run jointly by the states of New York and Vermont, provides public access for divers to historic shipwrecks. According to Jim Herbert, the project will include public moorings and buoys for certified, registered divers to use at the site of the two underwater wrecks. A plaque will be placed in Barcelona to direct divers to the sites. All costs will be borne by the Preserve Project.
