CASSADAGA - Barber Trucking Inc., a transportation service company located at 6947 Route 60 in Cassadaga, has made it a priority to build strong relationships with both its employees and the community.
"We're very family-oriented," said Kathy Conkright, human resources and recruiting officer for Barber Trucking Inc. "I've only been here a month, and I already feel like part of the family."
Recently, in an effort to thank its drivers, who often travel great distances away from home, the company held a Driver's Appreciation Week, complete with a cookout for its employees.
For the community, the company plans to sponsor a free meal for local veterans and even a "Touch a Truck" get-together for schoolchildren in the near future.
"We like to participate in community events," said Benjy Smith, operations manager of Barber Trucking Inc. "We want to show everyone the values we represent."
Building trust within the community, according to Smith, is critical to the business' success and an imperative for each of the company's three locations.
With terminals in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, the company is hoping to make its relatively new, three-year-old Cassadaga terminal a vibrant hub for transportation and shipping services along the eastern seaboard.
"We operate anywhere east of the Mississippi," Smith said.
A family-owned company, Barber Trucking Inc. has grown considerably over its 27-year history. Starting with just one truck, the company now has a fleet of vehicles that transports a diverse range of building and consumer goods, from granite and lumber to steel and shingles.
