Jamestown Elks Lodge 263 member James P. Murphy has established the Roberta T. (Bobbie) Murphy local scholarship fund in memory of his late wife. Murphy, a member of the lodge for 38 years, hopes the lodge can match his initial contribution of $10,000 by April 2014, the 10th anniversary of her death.
"Bobbie was a teacher, and it was she that suggested the lodge provide food for the special needs students at the Special Olympics in 1975," Murphy said. "Our lodge has continued that practice every year to this day."
"We are very proud to continue to supply food for the students at the Special Olympics for 38 years," Exalted Ruler Walt Gaczewski said. "We sincerely thank Brother Murphy for this wonderful scholarship in Bobbie's name."

The funds will be used for scholarships for the children and grandchildren of lodge members. Tax-deductible donations should be sent to the Jamestown Elks Lodge 263 and should be made out to N.Y.S. Elks Major Projects Inc.
