Joseph John Miraglia Sr., 318 Superior St., Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, in his home, with his wife and children present.
He was born on July 10, 1928, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Consalata Miraglia. He attended Jamestown High School prior to join-ing the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945-47.
In 1990, Joseph retired from Watson Manufacturing in Jamestown, where he had been employed for 38 years. He served as a Jamestown Reserve Police officer for 14 years, a lifelong member of the Marco Polo Club, serving as president for multiple terms. A loyal member of St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, Joseph served as an usher for services, served on the church council and was one of the founders of the Italian Fes-tival. He was also a volunteer for Jones Hill Rehab for more than 18 years, as well as a minor league baseball coach.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Ann Salemme Miraglia, whom he married on Aug. 28, 1954; five sons: Joseph Jr. (ToniAnn) of Jamestown, Jerrold (Charlene) of Orchard Park, N.Y., John (JoAnn) of Jamestown, Jam-ie (Kim) of Jamestown, and Jeff (Diane) of Jamestown; a sister, Josephine Marcello of Jamestown; and seven grandchildren: Matthew of Lake View, N.Y., Bennett and Charles of Orchard Park, N.Y., Amanda, Court-ney, Nicholas and Ryan of Jamestown.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Anna Amato of Jamestown, N.Y.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in St. John/Holy Apostles Parish. The Rev. Dennis Mende, pastor, will be celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, in the Migliore Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m.
