Janet R. Lahnen, 83, of Pecor Street in Portland, N.Y., passed away Sunday evening, Sept. 29, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Janet was born on Aug. 6, 1930, in Ripley, N.Y., and was the daughter of the late Orlo J. and Nina Raynor Prince. She resided in the Portland area for the last 50 years. Janet was a former employee of the Chautauqua County Home, retiring from there in 1986. She was a member of St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church of Brocton, N.Y. Janet was a former den mother of the Cub Scouts and the Boy Scouts of America, and she was also a very active and loving grandparent and great- grandparent, and was deeply loved and appreciated by her whole family. She and her husband, William were great travelers, having ventured through 49 of the 50 states with the lone exception being Hawaii.
Janet is survived by her loving husband, William G Lahnen, whom she married on Feb. 12, 1949. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage together. Five sons: William G. (Nancy) Lahnen II of Lakewood, N.Y., Stephen (Debra) Lahnen of Brocton, N.Y., Kevin (Debbie) Lahnen of Derby, N.Y., Patrick Lahnen of Brocton, N.Y., and Thomas (Tammy) Lahnen of Silver Creek, N.Y.; one daughter, Sharon (Terry) Abram of Brocton, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Raymond (Marie) Prince of Fredonia, N.Y., and Ronald (Edna) Prince of Forestville, N.Y.; one sister, Barbara (William) Gorka of Fredonia, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. Janet was predeceased by one son, Charles E. Lahnen who passed away in 1993.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning Oct. 3, 2013, at 11 a.m. from St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church of Brocton, N.Y., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. The Rev Joseph Walter will officiate. A private Interment with the family members will follow the church service at the Portland Evergreen Cemetery in Portland, N.Y.
