ROCHESTER - Senior Corey Wefing of Maple Grove was a dominant runner in the Boys Unseeded Varsity A-2 Small Schools Race at the 49th annual McQuaid Invitational on Saturday.
Wefing, who won the Queensbury Invitational last week, toured the three-mile layout at Genesee Valley Park in 15:12.6, helping the Red Dragons to 11th place overall with 329 points.
Owen Barber of Allegany-Limestone was a distant second with 15:40.3 while Ryan Hetrick and Jordan Powers of Southwestern were fifth and six respectively. Hetrick was timed in 16:07 and Powers in 16:15.9 as the Trojans finished fifth with 268 points.
Fredonia was seventh with 292 points and Falconer 14th with 395 points.
Holly Eliason of Panama-Sherman-Clymer ran a 19:02.1 to place first in the Girls Unseeded Varsity A-3 Small Schools race.Overall, Silver Creek came in third with 173 points and Sherman was seventh with 195 points.
For Panama-Sherman-Clymer, Katie Pacy was 21st with 20.38.3, Grace Dennis 48th with 21.33, Jurnee Hannold 52nd with 21;36.1 and Lauren Michael 73rd with 22:26.6.
Emma Seiders topped Silver Creek with a 19:36 fifth-place finish while her sister Hannah Seiders was 12th with a 20:05.1.
Hope Pietrocarlo of Maple Grove came in 19th with a time of 18:52 in the Girls Seeded Varsity A Small Schools.
Caroline Benson was 27th with a 19:19.9 followed by Taylor Norris 28th with 19:21.7. Kristin Kelemen 61st with 20:16.6 and Grace Auer 68th with 20:31 for the Lady Red Dragons.
Panama-Sherman-Clymer placed second in the Boys Unseeded Varsity A -3 Small Schools with 162 points.
Josh O'Dell was third with a 16:06, Dan O'Dell 18th with 16:57, Ryan Carpenter 30th with 17:26, Jordan Boland 36th with 17:32 and Chris Robison 75th with 18:13 for Panama-Sherman-Clymer.
Kirsten Holmberg of Falconer-Frewsburg placed 11th with a 19:39 in the Girls Unseeded Varsity A-2 Small Schools race. Colleen Steward of Gowanda was 13th with a time of 19:45.9 and Michaela Tramuta of Fredonia was 17th with a 20:04.2.
Jessica Schrader came in with a time of 22:40 and teammate Emily Nelson 22:50 for the best showing among the Southwestern girls in the Girls Unseeded Varsity A-2 Small Schools.
