CHAUTAUQUA - The 17th Annual Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau-Don Hogan Memorial Golf Tournament took place at Chautauqua Golf Club recently and the team of Phil Klinginsmith, Mike Klinginsmith, Al Akin, and Dan Akin took first place.
They shot a 9-under-par 63 to edge out the second place team led by Corey Pender.
Corey Pender and brother, Brian, are grandsons of tournament namesake, Don Hogan, and each fielded a team in the event.
The members of the winning team at the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau-Hogan Golf Tournament were, from left, Phil Klinginsmith, Al Akin and Mike Klinginsmith. Dan Akin was absent.
The tournament raised $3,000 which will be used to establish a new tourism fund in support of attracting significant fishing competitions and events to the area. Previously, funds from the tournament provided scholarships for three to five college-bound high school seniors annually.
Over the years, the tournament provided more than $39,000 to more than 60 area high school seniors. The new direction to attract significant fishing events is in keeping with CCVB's tourism mission and the interests of tournament namesake, Hogan.
The tournament and fund were established in honor of Hogan, founding member and long-time director of the Chautauqua County Vacationland Association, predecessor of the Chautauqua County Visitors Bureau.
