In a crucial early-season test with fellow unbeaten squad and conference foe Cattaraugus-Little Valley last Monday, McKenna Maycock helped to guide the Lady Cardinals to a slim 3-2 victory — along the way moving the team into first place in the division — behind a 32-kill, seven-dig effort.
Patrick Crossley scored three goals in a win over Falconer last Monday and on Wednesday he had a goal and an assist in a victory over Fredonia.
Emily Wuebbolt had three goals and one assist in a win over Dunkirk last Tuesday and recorded an assist in a loss to Frewsburg on Thursday.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Corey Wefing broke a longstanding course record last Tuesday in leading Maple Grove to victory. He posted a time of 16:17 on the 3.1-mile home course to break the previous mark of 16:22 set by Jesse Rappole in 2000. On Saturday, he was first out of out 253 runners at the Queensbury Invitational.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Kirsten Holmberg came on strong down the stretch to overtake Michaela Tramuta of Fredonia to win the girls race at Breezewood Links last Tuesday.
Cody Dustin rushed 38 times for 376 yards and four touchdowns, and he also caught a touchdown pass, in a win over Allegany-Limestone on Friday. His rushing total ranks second in school history.
