NORTH HARMONY - Several vehicles collided on the Chautauqua Lake bridge Saturday afternoon, leaving a Pennsylvania woman with minor injuries.
At 3:20 p.m. on the Interstate 86, Chautauqua Lake bridge, the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police responded to a multiple vehicle accident.
It is alleged that an older model, white work truck with a ladder rack on the right-hand side was stopped in the driving lane of the highway when a second vehicle, driven by Ryan Houser, of Erie, Pa., hit the truck's rear end. Following the collision, the white work truck fled the scene eastbound on Interstate 86, police said.
As the second vehicle sat in the driving lane awaiting assistance from medical personnel - a third vehicle, driven by Sharon Hilyer, of Clarendon, Pa., came to a complete stop behind Houser's vehicle. Then, a fourth vehicle, driven by Jeffrey Schaffhouser, of Brighton, Mich., failed to stop in time and collided with Hilyer's vehicle, police said.
Kenneth Sorensen, of Russell, Pa., who was the operator of a fifth vehicle, was unable to avoid the wreckage and sideswiped one of the vehicles involved.
Hilyer was taken to WCA Hospital by Bemus Point Ambulance for treatment of minor injuries.
Charges have not been filed.
The older model white work truck was not able to be located. The investigation is continuing. Any individuals with information on the accident are asked to contact the Sheriff's Office.
The Ashville Fire Department also responded.
