TROY - The Jamestown Community College women's volleyball team improved its NJCAA Region 3 Division III record to 6-1 and its overall record to 13-4 by defeating host Hudson Valley CC, SUNY Adirondack and Columbia Greene CC in POD play on Saturday afternoon.
JCC cruised to victory in the opening match, toppling Hudson Valley in straight sets 25-5, 25-6, 25-5.
Christina Rauh led the way with two aces, 17 assists, three kills and two digs; Shannon Gunnell had seven kills and three digs; Mandy Finch added four aces, three kills and seven digs; and Arrica Lis chipped in with two aces, two kills and two digs.
After an opening-game setback in their second match, 24-26, Jamestown rebounded by winning the final three games, 25-19, 25-13 and 25-21, to best SUNY Adirondack.
Rauh again led with 29 assists, eight kills, five digs and one block. Gunnell had two aces, 15 kills, seven digs and four blocks; Finch finished with six aces, eight kills and 10 digs; Shelly Bach had seven kills, two digs and five blocks; and Kayleanne Chase recorded six kills and six blocks.
The Jayhawks completed the successful day with an easy, straight-sets win over Columbia Greene, 25-2, 25-3, 25-7.
Finch tallied seven aces, one kill, one block and one dig; Gunnell had six kills, two aces, three blocks and a dig; Kaitlyn Nye delivered six aces, seven assists and a kill; and Kaylee Luce had six aces and one dig.
JAYHAWKS WIN IN OT
AUBURN - Trevor Dysktra and Niko Berinarud were the standouts for Jamestown Community College men's soccer team on Saturday in the NJCAA Region 3, Division III action.
Dykstra recorded his fourth shutout of the season and Berinarud scored the only goal as JCC (2-1-2, 4-3-2) handed Cayuga CC (4-1-1) its first loss with a 1-0 overtime decision.
Dykstra had seven saves in picking up the shutout for the Jayhawks.
The lone goal by Berinarud in the pouring rain came at 6:30 of overtime off of passes from Nolan Farr and Mike Morris. That shot from 18 yards gave Berinarud his third goal of the season.
JCC had a good chance to win when with only five seconds left in regulation Gage Bird had his shot from 4 yards away deflected by goalie Trevor Fletcher, who was outstanding with 10 saves.
The Jayhawks are in action again at 4 p.m. Wednesday when Finger Lakes CC comes to town. At 2 p.m., the women's team is playing Finger Lakes CC.
AUBURN - Sam Mann netted four goals, Kirsten Green had two more and a whopping nine Jamestown Community College players had their names etched on the scoring sheet when the Jayhawks handed host Cayuga Community College a 10-1 drubbing on Saturday afternoon.
Mann, who has scored eight goals in six games this season, scored her first two of the contest within a two-minute span - at the 31st and 33 minutes - giving JCC build a 4-0 advantage by the half.
The freshman striker also had an assist in the victory, which helped her squad improve to 1-1 in NJCAA Region 3 Division III West Division play and 2-4 overall.
"We were counting on Sam to be a dominant player," JCC coach Dana Shelters said. "She's starting to come into her own now."
Also scoring were Jenna Clauson, Janelle Jasinski, Megan Lundy and Brionna Swanson.
Clauson, Jasinski, Jordan Ahlstrom and Taylor Dechow also had one assist apiece while Lundy and Elizabeth Roosa had two each.
Kaitlyn Knott tended the nets for the Jayhawks, who outshot their opponents, 29-2.
