Members of Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union made it possible for Mel Feather, credit union board president, to bring two backpacks loaded with school supplies to Robert H. Jackson Elementary School in Frewsburg.
Credit union staff members held a Fill the Backpack Fundraiser during August, raising nearly $300 and collecting school supplies.
"We had members comment that it was their pleasure to help out as they understand how hard it can be for parents to purchase all of the supplies that are required from home. The enthusiastic support of our members is one of the reasons why Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union is a great place to bank," Feather said.

Laura Simons, credit union marketing coordinator, said the credit union purchased more than 20 backpacks and filled them with everything from pencils and notebook paper to tissues and crayons.
"Filling those backpacks was such fun, especially knowing that we would help children right here in our own area," Simons said. "Some backpacks were donated to members who expressed a need and the remaining backpacks will be given to schools where we have our Kid's Credit Union program."
