Donald R. Payne, 77, of Kennedy, passed away Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2013) in WCA Hospital.
A lifelong area resident he was born Dec. 29, 1935, in Jamestown, the son of the late Raymond and Viola Barrus Payne.
Don was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1953-55. He was employed by MRC-SKF for 41 years retiring in 1998.
He was a member of the Randolph Post 181, American Legion, Randolph Moose, Ellington Rod & Gun Club and the Vietnam Veterans Club. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball and football, and was a Chicago Cubs and NASCAR fan.
Surviving are his wife Shirley A. Little Payne, whom he married Dec. 15, 1954, in Conewango Valley; a daughter, Dawn (Dana) Shelters of Randolph; a son, Douglas Payne of Conewango Valley; 10 grandchildren: Brenin (Shelly) Payne, Jeremy (Amy) Engquist, Dara (Ja-son) Brown, DeAnn Shelters, Danelle Shelters, Kristi Payne, Devon (Nancy) Payne, Derek Payne, Sean Payne and Breann Payne; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Payne, and a daughter, Leslie Payne.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Ellington.
Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
