Two Warren County homes have been burned to the ground and another was mostly destroyed following an act of arson by a Grand Valley, Pa., man.
Pennsylvania State Police have taken James Edward Slagter, 67, of Grand Valley into custody following an investigation into the Southwest Township fires. According to police, Slagter illegally entered each of the three homes Friday morning before setting them afire with gasoline. A fourth home was entered by Slagter, and gasoline was poured but he did not set the home on fire, according to police. The estimated total loss for the three homes is approximately $400,000.
Slagter was committed to Warren County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail and is being held on three counts of arson, two counts of burglary, one count of criminal contempt for arson, three counts of criminal mischief, two counts of criminal trespass and three counts of recklessly endangering another person. Further court action is pending.
