The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown will open for it fall schedule of youth activities and programming at its 62 Allen St. facility on Tuesday Sept. 3.
The Boys & Girls Club offers a variety of affordable recreational, educational and social programs throughout the year for boys and girls ages 5 to17, (18 if still in high school) in a positive and enjoyable atmosphere with qualified adult supervision.
General open recreation youth program hours beginning Wednesday, Sept. 3 are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, 6-9 p.m. for 7- through 18-year-olds and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for 5- through 18-year-olds. The club is also open for youth activities from noon-5 p.m. on most school holidays, half-days and conference days.
The minimum age for open recreational attendance during evening time slots is seven years old. 5- and 6-year-olds may attend open recreation hours on Saturdays, school holidays, vacations and during the summer months.
Open youth recreation activities include swimming, gym, arts and crafts, computers, game rooms and a variety of special events. Most program areas are open during all youth hours, with age groups announced throughout the day for each area. Registered programming such as sports leagues or computer instruction will occasionally alter the open recreation schedule in specific activity areas.
Youth membership fees are $15 per year for 5- through 17-year-olds (18 if still in high school). Proof of date of birth is required for purchase of memberships or day passes. Children and teens may make $1 per day payments on memberships until the full membership is paid.
Free Teen Night activities are held a minimum of two Friday evenings each month 9-11 p.m. for all area teens ages 13-17 (18 if still in high school). Teen Nights offer open recreation or special theme activities. Proof of date of birth is required for admission.Boys & Girls Club memberships are not required.
The Fall Teen Nights will be held on the following Friday evenings: Sept. 13, Sept. 27, Oct. 11, Oct. 25, Nov. 8 and Nov. 22.
Community Family Night will be held each Thursday evening at the Boys & Girls Club from 6-9 p.m. beginning Thursday, Sept. 5. Club memberships are not required. Family Night activities will include game rooms, open gym and computers beginning at 6 p.m., and Family Swim from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Admission is free for Boys & Girls Club members and $1 per nonmember youth or adult. Children under age 5 are admitted free. Children and teens are not permitted to participate in Family Night activities unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult relative.
In addition to open recreation, the Boys & Girls Club offers a variety of instructional classes and youth sports programs throughout the year.
The fall youth program session includes Project S.A.F.E. after school care for students in grades K-8, youth swim lessons for ages 5 and up, infant and toddler swim lessons for ages 6 months through 4 years, indoor flag football for boys and girls in grades 2-12, and indoor soccer for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 4.
Projects SAFE After School Care begins Sept. 5, Infant/Toddler and Swim Lessons begin Monday, Sept. 9. Youth swim lessons for ages 5 and older begin the week of Sept. 15-21, Youth Indoor Indoor Soccer will begin in mid-October, and Youth Flag Football will begin in early January.
Youth basketball for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 8 will begin in January.
All programs, other than infant/toddler swim lessons, require youth memberships. Registration fees, in addition to youth memberships, vary by program. Player and volunteer registrations for all programs are accepted on an ongoing basis, with a deadline one week prior to each program's start date. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as each program will have a maximum number of players to be accepted.
The club is closed through Labor Day for members, but the office is open and accepting registrations Monday-Friday. (Closed Labor Day)
