DUNKIRK - A Dunkirk man, who led law-enforcement officials on a high-speed chase through the town and city of Dunkirk as well as Pomfret on Saturday morning, is now in custody.
David B. Anzalone, 29, of 238 King St., was charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing a police officer, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and unlawful possession of marijuana. Sheriff's deputies were behind Anzalone heading west on Route 20 at about 1:40 a.m. Saturday. For what police say was no apparent reason, Anzalone's 2006 Dodge Durango accelerated to a very high rate of speed and went through a red light at Routes 20 and 60. It continued west on Route 20.
Deputies caught up to the vehicle and attempted to have the driver stop. Anzalone failed to comply.
The pursuit continued into the town and city of Dunkirk and ended in a King Street driveway. Anzalone exited the vehicle and was quickly taken into custody.
He was taken to Dunkirk city jail and was awaiting arraignment.
