Rob and Dianne Foti of Sandee's Catering, Deli & Bakery will be celebrating the business' 65th anniversary from 3-6 p.m. Friday with food samples and hot dogs. The business was started by Rob's parents, Sandy and Diane Foti, in 1948 when it was known as Foti's Market on English Street. In 1953, the business received a name change when it became Sandee's, which is a combination of Sandy and Diana, who was known as Dee.
Through the years, the family-oriented business continued to grow by adding a bakery and catering service to provide food to hungry factory workers. In 1998, Sandee's relocated to 1284 E. Second St., after a fire destroyed the English Street location.
The owners, family and employees from Sandee’s Catering, Deli & Bakery will be celebrating the business’ 65th anniversary from 3-6 p.m. Friday at their 1284 E. Second St., Jamestown, location. Samples of Sandee’s food and hot dogs will be available during the celebration.
At the new location, the business expanded into a full-service deli specializing in pork pies, meatballs, subs, daily specials, Italian sausage, beef on weck and homemade rolls. The catering service also expanded to provided food to a variety of special events. In 2010, the business expanded again adding a second location in the Riverwalk Center, 15 S. Main St., Jamestown.
"I'm just carrying on the tradition," Rob Foti said. "I still make sausages like my father."
Now with four children of their own, the Fotis get help from Sandy, John, David and Amy.
"They like keeping us abreast to what is going on,'' Dianne Foti said. ''They see things, and have good ideas for us to try."
The Fotis said they wouldn't have made it this long without their loyal customers.
"You never know who you're going to meet," Dianne Foti said. "We get a lot of funny customers, and a lot of them who say 'Remember when.' We get that a lot."
The couple said their employees have also played an important role in keeping the business alive. There are several employees at the business that have been working there for more than 25 years.
"The employees are so loyal and so dedicated, we couldn't have done it without them," Dianne Foti said. "We've had a lot of great summer help. Our website (sandeescatering.com) was done by someone who used to work here during the summers."
The East Second Street location is open 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Riverwalk Center cafe location is open 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
