STOW - As a way to say thank you for another wonderful season, the Chautauqua Belle, the Village Casino, Nationwide Insurance and the Bemus Point-Stow Ferry will host fireworks free of charge on Sunday, Sept. 1.
The fireworks are scheduled to take place at 9:30 p.m. off of the Bemus Point-Stow Ferry. The ferry will be located midway between the two locations, and according to John Cheney, there will be plenty of vantage points available from which to watch the event.
"All of the residents that patronize the Casino and the Belle and our ferry ... we want to say thank you to everyone in the community that remain loyal to all of our organizations. We simply couldn't exist without that loyalty."
The last time that a fireworks display was launched from the ferry was in 2011 during the ferry's bicentennial.
According to Betty Lou Cheney, the display is going to be extra large.
"It's going to be one of the prettiest displays that has been launched in Chautauqua County," Cheney said. "We've got something really special in store."
According the Cheney, the display is going to be set up by Young Explosive Corporation. Although the display is a way to say thank you to residents, Cheney emphasized that the display is for everyone, regardless of whether they've ever used or donated to the ferry, or any of the other aforementioned establishments.
"We'd like everyone to show up," Cheney said. "If they like the show - and we know they will - and they'd like to show their appreciation, they can do so by using the ferry or visiting the Belle or the Casino at a later time. The important thing is to not miss the fireworks."
Although the display begins at 9:30, Cheney recommends arriving early, as parking on both sides of the lake could fill quickly.
