Thomas M. "Tom" Lovecchio, 92, of the Frewsburg Rest Home, formerly of 109 Sanford Dr., Jamestown, died Tuesday Aug. 20, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in WCA Hospital.
A Jamestown native, he was born Nov. 4, 1920, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Immordino Lovecchio.
He graduated from Jamestown High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1940, serving as a ship welder and gunner on the USS LST-379. He parti-cipated in the Invasion of Normandy and Anzio-Net-tuno. He was discharged honorably in December 1945.
Tom was a 44-year employee of Dahlstrom Manufacturing, retiring as foreman of the welding department. After his retirement, he worked part-time along with his wife as the maintenance man for his daughter and son-in-law at Germaine & Pappalardo Music Shoppe.
Tom was a communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church, was a former member of St. John Church, where he once served as president of the Holy Name Society. He also held memberships in the Marco Polo Club, Gaeta Club, Lakewood Rod & Gun Club and was an active member of the Herman Kent Post 777 of the Ameri-can Legion.
He loved to garden and golf along with being a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His family was the most important thing in his life. He was especially proud of the home he and his wife built in 1966 on Sanford Drive. This was evident in his immaculate landscaping and gardening.
Surviving are his two children: Thomas (Dana) J. Lovecchio of Lakewood, and JoAnn (John) Widrig of Blockville. He is also survived by his son-in-law Ramon "Ray" Pappalardo; seven grandchildren: Verna Ann (Mike) Kotansky of Lakewood, Ohio, Vincent (Julie) Pappalardo of Vestavia, Ala., Vanessa (Nate) Giancola of Twinsburg, Ohio., Scott (Jami) Widrig of Blockville, Jason (Micheal) Widrig of French Creek, N.Y., Andrea (John) Haskell of Jamestown, David Lovecchio of Chicago, Ill..; 10 great-grand children; and sisters: Jennie Morreale, Mary Ann Raineir and Pat Mancari, all of Jamestown.
In addition to his parent, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Angeline "Angie"(Calavitta) Lovecchio on Aug. 29, 2000; and daughter, Mary Ann Pappalardo on Jan. 5, 2010.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, in St. James Ro-man Catholic Church. Father Darrell Duffy will be the celebrant. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Mausoleum.
Friends will be received by the family from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in the Migliore Funeral Home. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m..
